Heather's Channel Challenge
Back in 2011 we at Neo claimed: “we like to make a difference both in and outside the office”. True to form, we are continuing our active philanthropic mission, only this time, we’ll be making a difference both in office and at sea.
Our accountant Heather is doing what has become known as “the Walliams” and is swimming the English channel in tandem with a team of willing crazies. Heather emotionally confided in me that after watching Jaws, at quote: “an impressionable age” she had failed to go back in the shark-infested waters of East Sussex, despite a previously prosperous junior swimming career. Now she’s back, armed with only Vaseline and a wet suit to fight her demons. Forget Chisoro vs. Haye, Heather vs. the south coast’s long shore drift, is the fight of the year.
With the assistance of the Brighton Swimming School’s “pool to pier” programme, Heather will push aside deck chairs and set about completing the truly daunting feet, with an estimated crossing time of around 17 hours. She has assembled a crack team of swimming’s celebrity A-list advisors to accomplish this task, including: Freda Streeter (described as the “doyenne” of channel swimming), Marcy McDonald and Colin Hill.
The event shall occur in conjunction with Aspire, several teams shall attempt the crossing and compete for the fastest time, hoping to hear sooner rather than later a cheeky “enchante” from the beach bound French natives. For more information regarding Heather’s escapade take a look at the Aspire website and to donate visit Heather’s very own charity page directly.
Bless Heather and all who sail with her!
